The Art of Possibilities: Empowerment and Recovery Through Creativity: The Art Awakenings Model with Camille Smith, MA, LPC, ATR-BC, Tiffany Ducey, LMSW, David May, & Kendall Tewers
Art Awakenings, a resiliency focused, trauma integrated, psycho-social rehabilitation program of Resilient Health (formerly PSA Behavioral Health) was developed in the early 2000s by Sara Marriot, former CEO of PSA. With the help of art therapist Camille Smith, Art Awakenings became a thriving statewide program offering hope, opportunities for development of resilience and the possibility of recovery to 1000’s of participants with mental health challenges. From the initial focus on adults with serious mental illness Art Awakenings expanded to provide services for youth and families and general mental health participants. Now in 17 studios throughout the state of Arizona, the Art Awakenings model is a proven formula for successful use of the arts, expressive arts therapy, and creative expression in the service of healing, resiliency, and recovery for people with mental health challenges. Through videos, personal sharing, and imagery attendees will gain an understanding of the positive impact of an effective arts based behavioral health program. Panelists will share perspectives from diverse methods of delivery of services: open studio, expressive arts therapy groups, art therapy, vocational training in the arts and community integration through galleries and exhibits.
Intended audience includes students, teachers, counselors, artists, therapists and community.
